Curriculum Vitae
Born in Catania on August the 7th 1948.

In July 1971, he got a degree in Industrial Chemistry at University of Catania, Italy.

In January 1972, he won a grant of the National Research Council (CNR), that was spent at Institute of Physical Chemistry at University of Milan, Italy.

In January 1976, he was charged by the Italian Minister of Education(Ministero Pubblica Istruzione) with a "Contratto" to conduct researches at University of Catania, Italy. In this period he was concerned with the study of spectrometry, properties of materials (with distinctive reference to simple molecular solids), under ion implantation in conditions of extreme energy density. In the following years he concentrated himself on more complex molecular solids, polymers, amorphous solids, and related techniques of investigation like the XPS and the SIMS. The materials he dealt with go from synthetic organic molecules to semiconductors (in particular Silicon, GaAs, InP and multiquantum wells), from molecular solids (aromatic hydrocarbons and polymers with wide molecular weight distribution), to amorphous solids and all the vast range of materials for microelectronics, going from the oxides to thin film interfaces, from the polymides, to Silicon nitride etc..

In December 1978, he became "Professore Incaricato" of "Misure Elettriche," in the Course of Degree in Chemistry at Faculty of Mat. Physical and Natural Sciences at University of Catania, Italy.

In October 1985, he became Associate Professor in charge of "Exercises of Physical Chemistry" in the Course of Degree in Industrial Chemistry at Faculty of Mat. Physical and Natural Sciences at University of Catania, Italy.

In March 1987, he became "Professore Straordinario" of Physical Chemistry at Faculty of Mat. Physical and Natural Sciences at University of Catania.

Since March 1990, he is Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at Faculty of Physical Mat. and Natural Sciences at University of Catania.

From November 1990 to October 1993, he managed the Department of Chemical Sciences at University of Catania.

Author of numerous scientific publications on International Magazines, he was guest at several International Congresses to give "Invited Lectures" on topics related to his scientific production.

For several years, and till today, he was President of the Council of the Course of Degree in Chemistry at University of Catania. During this period he managed the passage from the old arrangement of the studies in Chemistry to the new one, then enacted by a Chart of the Italian Ministry for University and Scientific and Technological Research.

As National Co-ordinator, he has leaded the Program "Surfaces" of the Finalised Plan of the National Research Council entitled "Special Materials for Advanced Technologies".

He has been President of Consorzio Catania Ricerche (CCR), an Innovation and Technological Transfer Centre for Sicily participated by C.N.R., I.R.I., I.N.F.N., University of Catania and other Organisations and local Companies, in which he promoted the institution of a Research Centre on Surfaces and Interfaces, located within STMicroelectronics.

He took part in the Technical Committee of the Municipality of Catania for environmental problems (Environmental Contamination).

Within the CCR he has been the Leader of the projects "Quality of Materials for Sicilian Manufacturing Firms" and “Le Malte e gli intonaci nell’edificio storico e monumentale della Sicilia: Caratterizzazione composizionale e ricerca di nuovi prodotti di restauro compatibili con supporti lapidei regionali” financed by the Italian Minister for University and Scientific and technological research and the Scientific and Technological Park of Sicily.

He organised many National and International Congresses and Schools (in which he was Teacher, too). Among these it's possible to remind the School on "Physical Chemistry of Surfaces in Industrial Materials," co-financed by the EC Training Programme COMETT, the International Congress “Radiation Effects on Insulators” (REI 8), hold in Catania in September 1995, the Congress of European Materials Research Society 2003 “Nanostructures from Clusters” and the Congress of the Materials Research Society “Degradation Processes in Nanostructured Materials” hold in Boston on Dicembre 2005.
